WHAT IS HYPNOSIS ?
1. A matter of setting aside the conscious mind and narrowing the attention span down to one thing, just as you do when you are beginning to go to sleep at night.
2. The conscious mind recedes, and the subconscious mind is in control. The hypnotherapist assists the mental shift, and the subconscious mind comes to the forefront. Once the hypnotist has brought about the mental shift, he can make suggestions to it, and these will be carried out if the client wants them to be accomplished.
3. A state of deep relaxation combined with clear mental focusing uncluttered by critical thought or distraction. As there is the intention and desire for change this heightened state of awareness in hypnosis allows the subconscious mind to directly receive positive suggestions for the therapeutic transformation.
4. An altered state of consciousness and a state of hyper-suggestibility. Because of this suggestibility in the alpha and theta levels, positive programming is extremely effective in helping to create positive changes for you.
5. A psychological phenomenon of profound value in mental therapy.
6. The safest means of curing types of mental distress in the shortest possible time. Hypnosis cuts down the time required for ordinary psychoanalysis to a fraction of the
usual length of treatment. Used together with psychoanalysis, hypnosis often results in cures in less than one-tenth of the time necessary without it.
HOW DOES HYPNOSIS AND HYPNOTHERAPY WORK?
Let us imagine the following situation: A young lady is sitting in a car which is stuck in a mud hole. She has been trying unsuccessfully to drive the car out of the hole and when a young man approaches she begs him to help her. He asks her to follow his suggestions and she agrees. Thereupon, the young man suggests the lady put the car into reverse gear and in this manner she drives out of the mud hole. The young man did not have any control over the car. He did not make the young lady put the car into the reverse gear. He had no power over the lady or the car. The young lady could have rejected the suggestion and perhaps she might have thought of the proper thing eventually without the man's help. She followed his suggestion only because she had faith in his knowledge of the proper thing to do in this situation.
There are many different ways in which one person can give instructions to another.
Your mind can be considered to be divided into two parts: the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is your critical, rational, judgmental, analytical factor.
The subconscious mind does not recognize the difference between an actual event and one that is imagined as being real and true because it does not interpret the information input into its memory, just like a computer. It accepts as truth all information.
The subconscious mind is the controller of our memories, emotions, experiences, beliefs, self-love, spirituality, traumas, joys, attitudes, immune systems and our bodies.
Its intention is always positive- to protect and guide us based upon its information. It is the source of our creativity, imagination and mysteries. It has awesome power waiting to be awakened, and provides a direct connection to our personal inner truths.
Hypnotherapy uses the skills of hypnosis to access the subconscious mind, which will "remember" all memories, beliefs and attitudes, and transform them. You will not deal with the symptoms of your issues, but will uncover original causes.
Hypnosis uses these phenomena to narrow the focus of attention, bypass the critical conscious mind and create an altered state of awareness where the body and conscious mind are in a relaxed state.
With the use of the gentle techniques of hypnotherapy, the subconscious mind becomes receptive to accepting new ideas, positive thoughts and feelings, letting go of traumatic and painful memories stored there.
You use the power of your subconscious mind to replace negative associations with positive ones. These new associations constantly influence your conscious mind to incorporate the changes you seek for long lasting results.
