James Bio

James Bates is the founder, director and owner of the American Academy of Hypnotherapy, Inc, as well as working on staff with Awakening Knowledge Hypnotherapy.

He is a professional psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist who began his career in psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, training and counseling in 1989.

He has operated a successful hypnotherapy and counseling practice in North Dakota with an affiliate office in Alaska. He currently maintains a private practice in Colorado with offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado where he is presented with opportunities to use his counseling and therapy skills.

He is versatile in a wide variety of hypnosis techniques including direct and indirect methods of induction with specialization in Guided Imagery, Spirit Releasement, Regression Therapy and Abduction Phenomena.

In James’ fascinating past he has served with numerous police departments in Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Colorado in the capacities of Narcotics, Investigation, and Undercover operations. His many years in police work are a great asset to his clients as he is quick to evaluate situations and information allowing him to zero in on effective healing.

Jim has been an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and horseman. He built a log cabin in Idaho, lived in the remote areas of Alaska working in harsh and extreme conditions and owned and ran a lodge as well. His durability and knack for staying alive in dangerous situations makes him a deep and fascinating person. He is the father of 8 children from 3 different familys. He is a loving and caring man with great empathy for others yet also holds intention for his clients to take on their lives and live them fully.

In demand as a guest speaker at many functions, he presents seminars locally and at National Conventions.

James is registered as required with the Colorado Mental Health Agency and is a member in good standing with the:

The Colorado Chapter of Eastern Institute of Hypnotherapy/National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, guided by J. Bates as President, was awarded the 2001 Chapter of the Year by EIH/NATH for dedication to hypnotherapy, leadership and innovation.
